Longwood is more than a school district. It is a community promise. From our youngest learners in Pre-Kindergarten to our graduating seniors stepping into the world, we ensure that every child feels seen, supported, and prepared for the life they choose to build.

Who We Are

A Community
Built on Pride

The Longwood Central School District serves one of the most diverse communities on Long Island, spanning nine neighborhoods across central Brookhaven. We believe difference is a strength, and that a great education is not a privilege but a right.

Our mission is straightforward: give every student the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue a meaningful and rewarding future, in whatever form that takes.

We carry that mission with Pride, Spirit, and Heart, shared by students, staff, and leaders across all seven schools.

We educate the whole child: academic excellence, social and emotional well-being, creativity, and continuous individual development. This balanced approach is what makes Longwood a special place to learn and grow.

Dr. Lance Lohman, Superintendent of Schools
One District, One Journey

Seven Schools.
One Path Forward.

From a first day of Pre-Kindergarten to a high school graduation stage, every Longwood student grows through a connected community of schools, and out into whatever comes next.

Career & College Readiness

The Academies of
Longwood High School

Every student deserves a personalized roadmap, not a one-size-fits-all diploma. Beginning in ninth grade, students explore their interests and build a customized College and Career Pathway. Juniors and seniors pursue an Academy track, graduating with real credentials, real credits, and real options. We call it being First-Choice Ready.

Students learn vehicle systems hands-on, from engines and brakes to electrical, working the real roles of a service shop and earning college credit toward automotive careers.

Hands-on cosmetology and barbering training at Longwood’s new Career and Technical Education Center, built to prepare students for licensure and careers in the field.

Students cook in a fully equipped industrial kitchen and learn the business of food, working toward a state Career and Technical Education endorsement that signals readiness to colleges and employers.

Students design, prototype, and build through courses like Principles of Engineering and Computer-Aided Design, working in a fully equipped engineering and manufacturing lab and earning college credit.

From photo and sound to video, animation, and graphic design for real clients, students produce digital media in the CTE Center’s Media Production Lab.

A new Medical Assistant program at the CTE Center, part of Longwood’s Health Sciences pathway, preparing students to excel in healthcare careers and further study.

A state Career and Technical Education endorsement program where students master essential business and entrepreneurship skills, with college-credit courses in accounting, marketing, law, and Virtual Enterprise.

Students build skills across computer science, networking, and digital media, with college-credit coursework and pilot programs in drone flight and computer-aided design.

A Seat at
Every Table

Longwood is home to one of Long Island’s most diverse school communities, with roots in 60 countries and families speaking 31 languages. We honor that as a strength, and we build for it on purpose.

Through our My Brother’s Keeper and My Sister’s Keeper initiatives, students find mentorship, belonging, leadership, and opportunity. And through our unified sports and, now, robotics programs, students of all abilities play, build, and compete side by side.

Our Seal of Civic Readiness and annual Legislative Day connect more than 1,300 high school students with government leaders, because Longwood’s next civic leaders are already in our classrooms.

Welcome to Longwood.
